Tourism professionals from all over the world gathered Izmir |
In the opening ceremony, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu, Izmir Chamber of Commerce President of Board Ekrem Demirtaş, Association of Turkey Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) President of Board Başaran Ulusoy and Association of World Travel Agencies Moris Kohen Kasar and 68 tourism and travel agencies' authorities from 26 countries attended.
Has made the opening speech of Tourism Summit, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu reminded that last year Bergama and this year Ephesus have added in the world heritage list of UNESCO and added that "Now it is time for Foça. We are preparing to apply to UNESCO for Kemeraltı, Agora and Kadifekale which is our ancient city.
We support the excavations in most of the areas in city, make expropriation, unearth Roman Ancient Theatre, besides we make huge expropriation expenses for these works and release to the public. In Kemeraltı, Agora and Kadifekale regions of 270 hectars, expenses of the expropriation, excavation and restoration works for 11 years is about 130-150 million dollars.
Supporting belief tourism and making restorations of synagogues, chapells, mosques and prayer rooms to vary tourism, we want to grow in congress and fair tourism and service industry.
As one of the partners of Izmir Jeothermal Joint stock company, to improve health tourism in the city, Mayor Kocaoğlu stataed that they collaborate with Izmir Governorship to unearth jeothermal sources. "We continue our meetings to found a cure center in Çeşme both with private sector and Çeşme Municipality Mayor.
TÜRSAB President Başaran Ulusoy claimed from the government to cancel tolls in Izmir cruise ports, not to increase port fees, to build a huge museum to display ancient pieces of 8500 years in Izmir and to give support in making the city a center for health tourism.
New Collaborations
We habe been selected as the best cruise destination in Europe for 3 years which is hosted by Izmir Chamber of Commerce President of Board Ekrem Demirtaş.
In last 3 years, we also have reached a success in congress tourism. New hotels, tourism investments are made in our city. Number of tourists is 1.5 millions. In the following term, we especially want to tend to health and congress tourism. During the summit, very important partnerships and collaborations' foundations will be laid and our foreign guests will come to Izmir with bigger groups.
In pursuit of the speeches, session with the theme "World Tourism and Trends" in which Philipines Travel Agency Union President Maria Michelle, Litvania Association of Internal Tourism Zydre Gaveliene, General Secretriat of Estonia Travel Tourism Association Kristen Lahtin, General Secretriat of Bulgaria Travel Agency Association Maya Philipova, Turkish Airlines Izmir Sales Manager Hakan Nalbantlı attended as speechgivers, is made. Then second session 2ith theme "Foreign Look on Izmir Tourism" themeis made.
Tourism Summit will be ended by 3rd October. After the sessions, travel agencies' directors will visit Kadifekale, Agora, Kemeraltı, Region of Synagogues, Historical Elevator, Ephesus and Virgin Mary. Within the programme, foreign and domestic attendants made bilateral discussions to make collaborations in tourism.
